The energy is building again at the Big Bear Valley eagle nest, and Jackie and Shadow are giving eagle cam watchers plenty to talk about.
Before sunrise yesterday, the pair met on the Lookout Snag for an early morning rendezvous—one of several clear signs that egg-laying season may not be over just yet. Afterward, Shadow flew off—likely in search of “breakfish”—while Jackie remained perched for nearly three peaceful hours, scanning her Valley territory from above.
Soon after, Shadow returned with a fish and paused in the nest tree basement. Jackie spotted him and flew toward the nest, vocalizing confidently. Message received: that fish was hers. Shadow delivered, Jackie claimed it, and after she finished her meal, the two shared a sweet beaky kiss before getting back to work.
Snow Melt, Stick Work & Nest Bowl Prep
With snow still lingering in the nest, Shadow delivered another stick while Jackie brought one of her own. In true eagle fashion, they rearranged, repositioned, and evaluated every angle until it met their high standards. Jackie dug into the bowl and tested it—classic pancake behavior—while Shadow wrestled with a slightly awkward branch that refused to lie flat.
As the sun warmed the nest and snow melted, Jackie later returned with a clump of wet grass, another important layer in building a comfortable egg bowl.
Sunset Romance & Strong Signals
The evening visit brought more nest digging, extended pancaking sessions, and a glowing Big Bear sunset as the backdrop. After Shadow flew to the Roost Tree, Jackie followed—responding to his call. When she arrived, they reunited with more bonding and chortles filling the crisp air.
Between increased mating activity, consistent bowl testing, fluff additions, and stick adjustments, the positive indicators are stacking up.
Now, eagle friends, we’re back in the waiting room.
