More incredible news from the Big Bear eagle nest—Chick 2 has officially hatched! At 8:30 AM on April 5th, the second eaglet completed its final push out of the shell, joining its sibling and marking a huge milestone for Jackie and Shadow in the 2026 nesting season.
For eagle cam viewers and birdwatching friends across the Valley, this is what we’ve been waiting for—two healthy bald eagle chicks now safely in the nest.
Right as Chick 2 finished hatching, Chick 1 was receiving its first successful feeding—a big step in early development. At this stage, eaglets are often called “bobbleheads” because their neck muscles are still developing, making feeding a delicate and sometimes challenging process.
Jackie carefully feeds them tiny bites of fish, and you may notice increased salivation—this is essential. Eagle parents provide nutrient-rich saliva filled with electrolytes and antibodies, helping boost the chicks’ immune systems and overall health.
Shortly after the second hatch, Shadow arrived at the nest and saw both of his chicks for the first time. His reaction said it all—calm, attentive, and ready to step into full dad mode. He quickly settled in, helping brood and protect the newborn eaglets alongside Jackie.
Both chicks are healthy, active, and off to a strong start. From first feedings to constant brooding, Jackie and Shadow are already proving once again why they are such an incredible bald eagle pair.
For eagle fans, this is just the beginning of an unforgettable journey—watching these tiny fluff balls grow, strengthen, and eventually spread their wings.
