Egg #2 Has Arrived! Big News from Jackie & Shadow in the Valley Nest
Share
More egg-citement in the Big Bear Valley! On January 26 at 5:09 PM, our favorite eagle queen Jackie laid Egg #2, just three days after Egg #1. This is classic Jackie timing—right on schedule and with all the calm, strength, and grace we’ve come to love her for.
The process began at 4:57 PM, and within 12 minutes, Jackie had added another perfect pearl to her growing clutch. Nestled safely beneath her, Egg #2 marks another powerful step in this season’s journey for Jackie and Shadow, our iconic bald eagle pair.
🦅 If you’re new here, here’s a fun fact all eagle-loving friends should know: Bald eagles practice delayed incubation. That means Jackie and Shadow gently hover over or intermittently incubate their eggs until the last one is laid. This smart strategy helps all the eaglets hatch closer together, giving each chick a fairer chance at survival by keeping them closer in size and development.
So what’s next? Well... maybe Egg #3! Jackie has a history of laying eggs about three days apart, so we could be looking at another big moment soon. But only Jackie knows what her body has planned, and we’re lucky to have front-row seats to the action.
Meanwhile, Shadow continues to be the ever-attentive partner—delivering food, fluffing the nest, and standing guard while Jackie does the hard work of egg-laying. Their teamwork, bond, and unspoken communication are what make them such a joy to watch.
📸 Whether you’ve been following these two for years or you’ve just joined our eagle-watching community, welcome! You’re part of something special. We’re all friends of the nest, tuning in daily from across the country to witness these stunning raptors write another chapter in their Valley love story.
