First Feedings & Fluffy Eaglets: Jackie & Shadow Shine as Parents in Big Bear 🐣🦅
Share
The Big Bear eagle nest is full of life as Jackie and Shadow settle into their new roles—raising two adorable eaglets during their very first week. For eagle cam viewers and bird-loving friends across the Valley, this is peak cuteness and one of the most rewarding stages to watch.
The morning began with an unforgettable moment—one tiny chick appeared with a “feather in its cap” during the first feeding of the day. As Jackie fed her young, the nest filled with the soft, high-pitched peeps of two eaglets, signaling they were ready for breakfast.
After brooding overnight, Jackie took a well-earned break on the Lookout Snag, while Shadow stepped in to care for the chicks. The pair stayed in constant communication, their familiar chortles echoing across Big Bear Valley.
Jackie soon returned with more fluff to line the nest bowl, ensuring the eaglets remain cushioned and protected. Shadow followed with additional contributions—including a stick delivery and later the first fish of the day, keeping the feeding schedule strong.
These eaglets may look like tiny fluff balls now, but change is coming quickly. Covered in soft natal down, they will soon develop thermal down and juvenile feathers, helping regulate their body temperature and prepare them for life beyond the nest.
