Fledge Watch Begins: First Flaps at Big Bear Lake 🦅
Share
It’s official—Fledge Watch has begun! As of today, Sunny is 10 weeks old, and both eaglets are growing fast, flapping harder, and getting closer to their very first flights. Every moment in the nest is filled with excitement, sibling antics, and the kind of wild charm that only Big Bear’s most beloved eagle family can deliver.
Sunny’s powerful wing flaps are beginning to show lift—hovering might still be a few days away, but we’re getting closer. Meanwhile, Gizmo has been watching in awe, occasionally joining in with a little flapping of their own. Competition? Maybe. Motivation? Absolutely.
The nest’s interior design also got an upgrade thanks to Jackie, who brought in a giant stick to boost the rails. Sunny and Gizmo voiced their disapproval by nipping at the new furniture—and at Jackie herself—but she got it placed anyway. Moms really do know best.
And through it all, windy weather kept both eaglets hunkered down, with Gizmo even trying to help Sunny preen a feather loosened by the breeze. Nest life is messy, sweet, and oh-so-real.
