Nest Life Heats up for Big Bear Lake Eagles, Jackie and Shadow

January 16, 2026

Big Bear’s most beloved bald eagles, Jackie and Shadow, are in full-on nest mode, adding stick after stick to reinforce the sides of their iconic wooden fortress. With windy landings, back porch arrivals, and meticulous rearranging, the nesting season is clearly reaching its peak.
Their teamwork is on full display as they test the nest bowl, Jackie pancaking frequently, and Shadow even trying it on for size. Nest building isn't just about structure, it’s courtship, bonding, and preparing for eggs. And if you caught their sunset moment, you saw Jackie tucked under Shadow’s wing, the kind of tender eagle intimacy that makes this pair so captivating.
The drama doesn’t end with sticks, Shadow brought a fish this morning, intending to keep it for himself, but Jackie had other plans. Her squee-filled protest and mantling display nearly worked, but Shadow stood his ground and ate the fish himself. All’s fair in love and nesting.
With chortles echoing, nest walls rising, and egg-laying season right around the corner, now is the time to keep your eyes on the sky, and your cart full at the Eagle Store.
