Jackie and Shadow, Big Bear Lake Eagles, Soaring over Big Bear Lake

Possible Gizmo Sighting! Juvenile Eagle Visits Jackie & Shadow’s Nest 🦅✨

Exciting news from the nest: a juvenile bald eagle—believed to be from the 2025 hatch year—was spotted this morning on Jackie and Shadow’s Roost Tree, and based on distinct feather markings, many eagle cam watchers think it could be none other than Gizmo!

After spending the night in the Roost Tree, the juvenile flew over to Jackie & Shadow’s nest, giving us a much closer look at its features. While juvenile eagles’ plumage changes rapidly, several identifying traits matched what we’ve seen from Gizmo: A turned-up gape at the corners of the beak. A distinct dark feather pattern on the tail. And most notably, a gap on the trailing edge of the left wing—a known marking Gizmo had.

The juvenile spent time exploring the nest, moving sticks, checking out the surroundings, and even paused for a classic balcony poop shot before heading out for the day. Later, a similar-looking juvenile brought a fish to the nest tree basement, further strengthening the case that Gizmo may be back.

As a cherry on top, both Jackie and Shadow made appearances at the Roost Tree this evening. Jackie arrived with her signature chortles, and the two performed a brief but beautiful switchover before one settled in for the night.
