Sunny’s First Flight: Big Bear’s Youngest Eagle Takes to the Skies! 🦅
Share
It’s official—Sunny has fledged! On a bright morning at 10:46 AM, Sunny launched from the nest for the very first time, soaring confidently toward a nearby pine—Jackie and Shadow’s favorite roosting tree. After weeks of wingercising, hopping, and building strength, this was the moment eagle fans everywhere had been waiting for.
Sunny circled gracefully and landed near the top of the tree, choosing a familiar and safe destination after watching her parents perch there for months. Thanks to the incredible camera team, we were able to spot her quickly and confirm she was safe and perched strong.
That night, Sunny stayed in her chosen tree, roosting above her parents, with Jackie and Shadow keeping a close eye on her from their usual lower branches. And early the next morning, she took to the air once more—this time, flying back toward the nest tree.
Though the cam wasn’t fast enough to capture the full return, Gizmo—still on the nest—watched Sunny’s flight closely. But instead of returning directly to the nest, Sunny landed on top of the nest tree canopy, pacing, hopping, and exploring for nearly an hour and a half.
Finally, with confidence growing, Sunny took off again—this time heading to the nearby Simba Tree, continuing her first day of independence and exploration.
